You are encouraged to submit abstracts on the Conference Themes of:
- Interprofessional Learning (IPL)
- Restructuring degrees
- Relevance to practice
- Workbased learning
- Internationalisation
With a focus on
- Innovations in Learning and Teaching in the Faculties of Health
Abstracts can be for:
- Research papers
- Innovations/Work in progress
- Posters
- Workshops
We also invite you to submit full papers for 'Research Papers' and 'Innovations/Works in Progress' if you would like it to be peer reviewed and considered for possible inclusion as a DEST approved publication in the volume of conference proceedings. Submission of an abstract does not automatically require submission of a full paper.
Due to popular demand the abstract (or Abstract & Full Paper) submission date has been extended to Sunday, 16th September 2007. Late submissions will not be accepted under any circumstances.
You will be sent confirmation of receipt by email.
Abstracts should be submitted electronically via the link below:
All abstracts should:
- Be no more than 300 words, including references. Author and contact details are not included in the word count.
- Have an informative title
- Indicate to which theme your presentation is relevant
- State name of author(s) with presenting author first
- State name of affiliated institutions
- Address for correspondence and email address.
The body of the abstract should contain:
- Study hypothesis/aims
- Methods/approach
- Findings/outcome
- Conclusions/future directions
Once an abstract has been submitted it is not possible to edit it. If you need to make changes, you will need to resubmit your abstract and to delete the previous one.
Papers:
Papers of up to 3000 words (excluding references) should be:
- Saved as Word .doc file using the template provided (see Downloads page)
- Include a title page with authors details, email contact details, and word count, and
- Prepared for blind review, that is, no identifying information in the paper after the title page
Papers should be submitted by email to by 31 August, 2007. Authors' surnames and the title of corresponding abstract should be clearly identified in the body of the email.
Papers should be based on the Sydney University Press Word template or style sheet and follow Vancouver referencing guidelines.
Poster specifications:
Posters should not be more than 1m wide. Please see the Downloads page for poster templates.
Please note: No abstracts and posters will be accepted if not in the correct format.
Each abstract will be peer reviewed by members of the Abstracts Committee using the criteria of:
- Relevance to the Conference
- Originality
- Scientific merit
- Ethical standards
You will be asked to nominate your preferred type of presentation – paper (research or innovation/work in progress) Workshop, or poster – but the Committee reserves the right to make the final decision.
Oral presentations will be 10 minutes with 10 minutes for discussion/changeover.
Papers will be peer reviewed according to DEST standards. In addition to the criteria used to review abstracts, papers need to show:
- Substantial scholarly activity - full referenced and within disciplinary context
- A major contribution to knowledge
- Originality
- Clarity in structure and expression
- Institutional affiliation at the time of research
Papers must report:
- Information not previously published to be under consideration for publication elsewhere
- Material consistent with the accompanying submitted abstract
Posters will be displayed during the two days of the conference and in addition authors will be given 3 minutes (one slide) to present their poster during an allocated session time.
Notification of acceptance or rejection will be emailed to submitters.
You are invited to submit a written form of your paper for consideration for inclusion as a DEST approved publication in the printed conference proceedings. The Conference Committee intends to publish a refereed academic publication which will provide an authoritative review of health education initiatives over the past two years. The peer-reviewed proceedings will be published by the Sydney University Press (SUP) and will be available to registrants at the conference and later for sale through SUP eStore website and at the Co-op Bookshop.
